Biography: Dr. Khalid Rasheed got his B. Sc. from Forman Christian College, Lahore. While there he was selected to lead a delegation of students to India in 1955 where the group had the opportunity to meet with several Indian leaders including Jawaharlal Nehru and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. He obtained his M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Karachi, completing his thesis work at the Central Laboratories, Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR), under Prof. Georg Hahn. He went on to complete his Ph. D, as a German Academic Exchange Scholar, at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, under Nobel laureate Prof. Georg Wittig. In 1964 he was invited to work with Prof. Martin Stiles at the University of Michigan as a post-doctoral associate. He returned to Pakistan in 1966 to work at the Central Laboratories, PCSIR, in Karachi, with a joint teaching appointment at the University of Karachi, teaching a course on reaction mechanisms. In 1968 Dr. Rasheed returned to the United States as a Research Associate at Michigan State University. In 1971 he joined the Ansul Corporation working on synthesis of novel pesticides, becoming head of chemical research in 1978. This period resulted in some novel work in organo-sulfur chemistry as well as the isolation of novel insecticides that were later developed by Ciba-Geigy Corporation. In 1982 Dr. Rasheed moved to the Witco Corporation, a specialty chemicals company, where, in 1985, he was appointed Group Manager, chemical research. In 1997, following a joint venture with Crompton Corporation, he was transferred to Columbus, Ohio, to form a Strategic Chemistry group devoted to basic research that was targeted to impact divisions across the joint venture businesses. Dr. Rasheed retired from Witco-Crompton Corporation in 2000, and returned to Houston, Texas, to continue work as a consultant in the areas of oilfield, agricultural and soil remediation technologies. He has authored over 20 U. S. and international patents and over 25 publications in the areas of reactive intermediates, aromaticity, organo-sulfur chemistry as well as work on novel surfactants. He has also made technical presentations at international conferences as well as at national meetings of the American Chemical Society.
