Research Interests: Power Electronics, Power Semiconductor Devices, Energy Storage, Automotive Electronics.

Biography: Khurram Afridi’s research interests are in the area of electronic energy conversion including high-frequency circuit design, power semiconductor devices, energy storage devices, automotive electronics and smart electric grids. Khurram received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Caltech and his Masters of Science and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT. Khurram Afridi joined LUMS SSE on deputation from Techlogix. As Chief Operating Officer of Techlogix, he helped the company grow since inception in 1996 into a diversified technology services company with operations in US, UAE, Pakistan and China. Prior to joining Techlogix, he worked at Schlumberger, Philips Laboratories, Lutron, and JPL. At JPL he was part of the SURFSAT-1 design team – a NASA satellite that was launched into orbit in 1995. Khurram is a recipient of the BMW Scientific Award for 1999. He is a member of the Board of Management of the Engineering Development Board of Pakistan, a member of the Institutional Review Board of Shaukat Khanum Hospital and a member of the Board of Directors of Techlogix. He is a contributing author of the Power Electronics Handbook and holds one US and international patent. Khurram is currently at MIT as a Visiting Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
