Selection Criteria:
Students are selected for admission to LUMS based on the following factors:
- Academic Background
- Performance in the Admission Test(s)
- Submission of a completed application form (and all required supporting documents)
- Interview (if called)
All admission decisions are taken by the Undergraduate Admissions Committee and are final.
Allocation of major:
Students who apply to multiple schools/degree programmes are considered separately for each school/degree programme. Admission in a specific school/programme is based on merit and the availability of seats.
The allocation of major, factors in the students’ preferences, their academic performance at LUMS and, in the case of SHSSL, the capacity constraint in the Deptt. /Subject area.
SSE: For students admitted to the BS Programme in SSE, the allocation of majors takes place at the end of first year of study. Students interested in Electrical Engineering are required to have taken Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in FSc/A’ levels.
Note: Students can request for a change in their programme/school at the end of first year at LUMS subject to academic performance and availability of space. However, such requests will be decided on a case to case basis by the concerned department.
Academic Background:
- Applicants who have successfully completed FSc/ICS/A’ Levels/High School Diploma or International Baccalaureate are eligible to apply for admission if they fulfill one of the following academic qualifications:
- Successful completion of Matric (60% marks or above) and FSc/ICS (65% marks or above)
- O’ Levels results (in at least 6 subjects) and 2 Bs and 1 C grade in A’ Levels in at least 3 principal 1 subjects such that there should be no more than 1 C grade and no grade less than a C.
- The principal subjects are Biology, Chemistry, Computing, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics. Any deviations from this list would be examined on a case to case basis and the decision of the Admissions Committee would be final. No credit will be given for General Paper.
- American High School Diploma (80% or above or Grade point average of B or above)
- International Baccalaureate (at least 30 out of 45 points)
- Combination of the above
- Any other equivalent qualification (minimum acceptable scores will be determined by the Admissions Committee)
- Applicants who have not taken the final exams of their FSc/ICS/A’ Levels (in three principal subjects listed in subsection I-a)/High School Diploma or IB as yet and are expecting their final results by August 2012 will be given a conditional offer. Applicants must fulfill one of the following academic qualifications to be considered for a conditional offer:
- Successful completion of Matric (with at least 60% marks) and FSc/ICS 1st year (65% marks or above)
- O’ Levels results (in at least six subjects)
- American High School Diploma (9th, 10th, & 11th year) results with 80% marks or above or Grade point average of B or above
- International Baccalaureate (first year) results (at least 30 out of 45 points)
- Applicants who are made a conditional offer must subsequently meet one of the following conditions for admission to LUMS by August 2012:
- Successful completion of FSc/ICS (with 65% marks or above)
- A’ Levels in at least 3 principal subjects with at least 2 Bs and 1 C grade such that there should be no more than 1 C grade and no grade less than a C. The principal subjects are Biology, Chemistry, Computing, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics. Any deviations from this list would be examined on a case to case basis and the decision of the Admissions Committee would be final. No credit will be given for General Paper.
- American High School Diploma (minimum required grades for the 12th year will be decided by the Admissions Committee)
- International Baccalaureate (at least 30 out of 45 points)
1 Principal subject (full credit course)
Note:
- Candidates who have either completed or are in the last year of completion of 12 years of Education which does not lead to FSc/ICS/A’ Level or International Baccalaureate Certification will be required to get an equivalence certificate from the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC), Islamabad, Pakistan. - Candidates who have already completed their A' Levels (have taken the exam of minimum three A' levels principal subjects listed in subsection I-a) and do not meet the minimum grades requirement must improve their grades in order to be eligible for admission. A' Levels Exams are held in November and June. To be eligible for the admission in 2012, students must improve their A' Level grades in November 2011 exams. Applicants planning to improve their grades by taking June 2012 exams are not eligible for the Fall 2012 session.
- Applicants should be aware that the presentation of incorrect/false/forged/fraudulent information or document in connection with admission to the LUMS Undergraduate Programme is a criminal offence and the University reserves the right to initiate appropriate action.
- Action may include, but is not limited to cancellation of an application for admission, an offer of admission, or of an enrollment.
Admission Test for SSE:
The SSE Admissions Test is mandatory for all applicants (except applicants residing abroad) applying to the School of Science and Engineering (SSE). The SSE Admission Test for admission to the Fall 2012 semester will be held ONLY ONCE on February 11, 2012.
Applicants residing outside Pakistan and currently studying or having completed their last year of schooling abroad are required to submit official results of the SAT Reasoning Test
(SAT I) and at least 3 of the 4 SAT II subjects listed below:
- Biology-M
- Chemistry
- Mathematics II-C
- Physics
Applicants residing outside Pakistan and currently studying or having completed their last year of schooling abroad need to take all required SAT tests through College Board, USA
latest by January 28, 2012 in order to be considered for admission. SAT scores must be
reported to LUMS officially from the testing agency. The college code for reporting SAT
scores to LUMS is 0513.
Applicants taking the SSE Admission and also have taken (or are planning to take) the SAT I
and/or SAT II subject tests are encouraged to submit a copy of their SAT score reports as
part of their admission application. The copy of the scores should be sent along with all other supporting documents OR reported directly from College Board.
LUMS Admission Test for SSE:
The test consists of seven (7) sections. The first three sections (Basic Math, Verbal & Paragraph Writing) are compulsory. From the remaining four Subject Sections you need to attempt any three of your choice.
Compulsory Sections - Basic Mathematics, Verbal & Paragraph Writing
Time: 20 minutes for each section
Difficulty level: O' Level/Matriculation
Question Type: Multiple choice and Paragraph writing
Preparation: Any SAT preparation book
Subject Sections - Advanced Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
Time: 120 minutes for three subject test (Out of given four sections, three are compulsory)
Difficulty Level: A 'Levels/FSc. /SAT II (the questions will be "unseen", that is, they will not be taken from past A 'Levels/FSc. exams or standard textbooks; they will search for a deep understanding and good recall of fundamental principles)
Question Type: Multiple choice questions in each section
Preparation: Self-study, good science textbooks
Calculators are not allowed for the SSE Admission Test.
Registration for SSE Admission Test:
The LUMS Admission Test Registration will be done through the LUMS online application system at: http://admissions.lums.edu.pk
Applicants must successfully submit their complete application and supporting documents on or before the January 12, 2012, 5:00 pm (Pakistan Standard Time):
Test Registration Cards and instructions will be posted to the applicant's secure online application account, and an email message will alert applicants that the Test Registration Card has been posted. Test Registration Cards will be posted on applicant’s online account starting January 31, 2012.
Applicants are required to download and print their Test Registration card and attendance slip. Candidates without a Test Registration Card will NOT be allowed to take the test. The exact locations, test timings, and other information will be communicated to applicants through the Test Registration Card and LUMS website i.e. www.lums.edu.pk.
Note:
Applications without correct photograph or appropriate fee (as specified in the online application form) will not be processed for the registration of the test.
